Referees and Officials

If you play on a regular basis for a team then you will be expected to contribute to some of the referreeing duties. On average this works out at about three duties per person per season.

Normal SVA rules require only the 1st Referee to be qualified. They do not need to be currently registered. 2nd Referees do not need to be qualified, but they do need to understand the rules. If you are unsure you can always check with the 1st Referee prior to the match.

Scoring is done on a proper EVA scoresheet. If you don't know how to fill out an official scoresheet, then training can be arranged.

The following points are very important:

  • It is your duty to know which matches you are officiating at.
  • If you cannot make the match, it is your duty to find somebody else to swap with. If a swap occurs, you must inform the referees co-ordinator and the team captain.
  • It is the team captain's responsibility to ensure they know who is officiating at their match (including any swaps) and they should bring the referees contact numbers with them to each game.
  • If a game is rescheduled, it is the team captain who agrees to the new date - therefore the team captain must also get agreement from the officials for the new date or find replacements.
