Surrey League Information

During the 2010/2011 season we will have teams in mens division 1, mens division 2 and ladies division.

In 2009/2010 the ladies team won the ladies division of the Surrey league and were runners up in the South East Cup competition.  They were also runners up at Whitefield tournament (Bath) during the summer.
The mens division1 team finished third, and also took part in the South East Cup competition.

Surrey league matches are played from the beginning of October to the end of April. Each league usually has eight teams and we play each team home and away. A team usually has twelve to fourteen matches in a season.

Most home matches will be played on Sunday evenings. Away matches vary according to the other teams match time - can be mid week evenings, Saturday daytime or Sunday afternoon / evening. The majority of matches are Saturday or Sunday.

Referees and Officials

If you play on a regular basis for a team then you will be expected to contribute to some of the referreeing duties. On average this works out at about three duties per person.

Normal SVA rules require only the 1st Ref to be qualified. They do not need to be currently registered. 2nd refs do not need to be qualified, but they do need to understand the rules. If you are unsure you can always check with the 1st ref prior to the match. Anyone should be able to score. If you don't know how to fill out the scoresheet, then training can be arranged.

The following points are very important:
- It is your duty to know which matches you are officiating at.
- If you cannot make the match, it is your duty to find somebody else to swap with. If a swap occurs, you must inform the referees co-ordinator and the team captain.
- It is the team captain's responsibility to ensure they know who is officiating at their match (including any swaps) and they should bring the ref's contact numbers with them to each game.
- If a game is rescheduled, it is the team captain who agrees to the new date - therefore the team captain must also get agreement from the officials for the new date or find replacements.
